The Jocelyn Herbert Lecture at the National Theatre on 22nd November 2016: In this lecture Rae will explore drawing as an expression of thinking, communication and imagination. Using the latest 3D drawing tool, she will illustrate how designing a show using this technology can enhance the act of imagination and contribute a method of designing in performance.

Following successful runs at MIF and National Theatre WONDER.LAND opens at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris; CAVILIERI RUSTICANO and PAGLIACCI at the Met New York; WAR HORSE on tour in the UK, Europe and China.

The Tempest

At present I am working on designing a Shakespearean Tempest for David Bintley: it’s a real challenge to come up with a set environment for touring which transforms magically with simple beauty :another guantlet is Elizabethan dress in classical costume that are light, spectacular and that we can see the classical line of the body within. I’m looking forward to design the supernatural creatures in particular.

Celebrating the 150^th anniversary of Alice, WWW.Wonderland is a new look in to the story and a tremendous cross boundary theatre and music project. It has brilliant music written by Damon Albarn and it’s wonderful to work with Rufus Norris as part of a new era at the National Theatre.

For me a really exciting design idea has been to build model scenery that is filmed, like a film set special effects model, then projected back in to the theatre environment alongside built scenery.
